Communication Scholarship and LD Resources Foundation Inc. Recognition Award

Communication Scholarship Award

What is the Communication Scholarship Award?

It is well known that language impairment frequently continues as people with learning disabilities become adults. Language disorders in young adults with learning disabilities are often accompanied by literacy problems which interfere with their pursuit of higher education, and often present barriers towards finding and keeping suitable employment.

Adults with language-learning disabilities frequently hide their difficulties, and avoid reading and writing wherever they can. The negative impact on school, work, and personal life cannot be overstated. Unfortunately, the professional community does not always provide enough services for adults with language and literacy-related learning disabilities.

The LD Resources Foundation has created a Communication Scholarship Award, which provides services to college students with language-learning disabilities, at universities’ speech-language-hearing clinics. This award is designed to improve students’ vocabulary, grammar, social use of language, and literacy skills. The goal of this Award is to enhance students’ performance in academic and vocational activities, and help to enhance their self-esteem, assertiveness, and self-reliance.
