This award stresses improved literacy by providing LD students with the reading support necessary for academic success. It includes help in applying for membership to the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic® (RFB&D®), which is the nation’s educational library serving people who cannot effectively read standard print (dyslexia). The library requires applicants to submit documentation of a disability, which limits or prevents reading standard print effectively. Additionally, once accepted by the library, LDRF will pay the required membership fee, plus the first year’s dues required for users of the library. RFBD® library membership will benefit students by allowing them to order textbooks on specially formatted CDs.
We advise all of our applicants to submit their orders to the library as far in advance of the start date of their courses as possible. Please note: not all text books are available on recordings. *LDRF is not affiliated with the Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic® library. Although we recommend the winners of our literacy award for membership, and assist students with the library’s application process, LDRF cannot guarantee membership. Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic® is not a sponsor of LDRF awards and does not participate in the selection of winners. LDRF award winners will be required to complete the RFB&D® membership application form, provide copies of all documentation and comply with all terms of membership. For more information regarding the Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic® library and membership requirements, please go to www.rfbd.org
